JOB MICHIEL VAN ZUIJLEN is an independent media artist based in Virginia (USA) and Atlantic Canada, where he produces narrative animated films in his private studio. This work environment allows him to engage in his own projects without any time constraints or commercial obligations.
Noticing the relationship between animation and graphic novels, Job decided that would be worthwhile to create a graphic novel based on and in conjunction with the animated version of the same story. In addition, selected pages of the graphic novel turn out to be well-suited to stand on their own as individual artworks.
KHENTOPIA is an original story that started out as a movie. Frames from the movie form the basis for the imagery in the graphic novel. By and large, the dialog also stems from the movie, albeit sometimes rephrased. Because of this way of working, the graphic novel has a cinematic feel comparable to certain comic books, such as the Tintin series by Hergé.
The imagery (of both movie and novel) was created using Reallusion animation and character creation software, with post processing done in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. The graphic novel itself was composed in Comic Life.
Khentopia is a work of fiction, taking place in the 26th century. It’s possible that characters mentioned in the story will actually exist at that time. Furthermore, reference is made to events in the 21st century that could have happened, which is hereby acknowledged.
